Moncrieff: A Powerful New Voice in Irish Music

Hailing from the small town of Tramore, Co. Waterford, singer-songwriter Moncrieff (Chris Breheny) has quickly become one of Ireland’s most emotionally raw and resonant musical voices. His journey began with heartbreak and loss which led him to turn to music as a way to process grief and stay grounded. That emotional honesty still runs deep in every song he writes.

Please tell us a bit about yourself ?

After spending some time living in Berlin, I eventually made the move to London and made a big decision—to leave behind a career in law and throw myself completely into songwriting. It was a risk, but one that changed my life. One of the first major moments came when Sir Elton John played my debut single on his radio show. That support helped get my name out there and gave me the push I needed to keep going.

Can you tell us about some of the key milestones in your music career over the past few years?

In 2022, my single “Warm” became a top 10 hit on Irish radio. That song opened so many doors—it brought me to stages across Europe, including a live performance on Germany’s ARD network, and in 2023, it was honoured with the RTÉ Choice Music Prize for Irish Song of the Year. That win meant a lot, not just for me personally, but as part of a new wave of Irish music that’s grounded in honesty and emotion.

In 2024, I released the Self-Care EP—a very personal collection of nine songs dealing with mental health, healing, and everything in between. That same year, I played my biggest headline show to date at the 3Olympia Theatre in Dublin—an unforgettable night.

Now, in 2025, I’ve just finished recording my debut album, written and produced between London and the legendary Grouse Lodge Studios in Westmeath. It’s the most complete reflection of who I am as an artist so far.

Irish music has always been about storytelling—and I’m proud to be one of the voices bringing those stories to the world, with heart, honesty, and soul. And this is just the beginning.
