Grangecon Kitchen: Eatery
Early in the morning, as the village still sleeps, Grangecon Kitchen is bustling – loaves of sourdough are being baked, fresh doughnuts being filled with cardamom custard, pistachio and orange cake cut into generous slices, cinnamon buns being dusted and the coffee machine warming up.
EARLY IN THE MORNING, AS THE VILLAGE STILL SLEEPS, GRANGECON KITCHEN IS BUSTLING!
Co-founders Laura and Stephanie have long shared a passion for food made from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, inspired by flavours from all over the world. The idea of creating tasty dishes for their local community has long been a dream, even at times it seemed a distant one.
Then in January 2019, a small cottage, used as a cafe many years ago, came up for rent in their local village. Stephanie and Laura pounced. And by the end of July, with the paint still drying, they opened the doors to the Grangecon Kitchen. Stephanie and Laura work with local food producers and farmers to create a menu that is exciting for the tastebuds and good for the land. They make everything from scratch, often throwing in ingredients foraged from the woods and fields around County Wicklow. With help from designer Jennifer Forde, Laura and Stephanie hope to have created a place where people can feel welcome, and that as you sit down in their Kitchen, you feel as at ease as you would in your own.
